Image Monitoring with Leila Boujnane of Idée Inc.

Knowing where your images have been used is important to all image professionals. To date, the only approach available to editorial and stock photography agencies has been to manually review usage and check for compliance. Agencies worldwide perform manual markup of publications, reviewing found image usages against licensing information to ensure compliance. This labor intensive and error prone process of physically reviewing publications relies on either the existence of photo credits or a detailed knowledge of an image collection.

The Espion Monitoring Service (EMS) uses Idée's ground–breaking pattern recognition software to produce reports detailing where your images have been used in printed publications as well as on the Internet. Even severely altered images can be accurately identifiedówithout relying on photo credits.

This presentation will outline current image monitoring technologies and approaches and will summarize what this means for photographers seeking to protect their copyright.

Attendees will learn:

  1. How the industry is currently monitoring image usage.
  2. What technologies have been used in the past for image monitoring and why these technologies had limited success.
  3. About emerging image monitoring technologies: What are they and what are their capabilities; what do image monitoring reports look like; and what information do they capture. What are your options as a photographer.
  4. How can you benefit from current image monitoring technologies.
